Summer STEAM Camp: 6th – 8th Grade (AM Session)
July 8 @ 8:00 am - July 12 @ 12:00 pm$295
Summer STEAM Camp at Jump Simulation will provide students the opportunity to become fully immersed in the different areas of STEAM, specifically pertaining to health care, through participation in five, half-day sessions, beginning July 8, 2019. The five session topics include CPR Certification, Health Care Engineering, Creative Services & Technology in Health Care, Anatomy Lab and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Day 1 – APPLICATIONS OF DIGITAL MEDIA, DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY IN HEALTHCARE
Students will learn about a variety of topics related to creativity and technology within a health care environment and also how low-cost technology is helping to shape the future in the field of health care.
Subjects will include:
-Visual Problem Solving and Storytelling in Biomedicine
Day 2 – CPR TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION
Students will receive Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training that follows the American Heart Association’s set guidelines.
This session will give student participants the opportunity to:
-Understand the basics of CPR and what must be done to perform CPR in an effort to save a life
-Utilize actual adult and pediatric CPR manikins for training purposes
Day 3 –HEALTH CARE ENGINEERING
Students will gain an understanding of both the classic and unconventional fields of engineering they can enter and be exposed to opportunities present in today’s industry from Jump Simulation Bioengineers. During this session, students will:
-Learn how engineering is used in the healthcare system
-Gain understanding of multiple engineering concepts
-Learn what the bioengineers do at Jump
-Have hands on participation in engineering projects
Day 4 – NEUROSCIENCE LAB
Students will explore, identify, and describe the basic structures of the brain and nervous system. Students will discuss and use examples of the anatomy and physiology of the brain to explain how they control basic life functions, daily activities, and complex thought processes that allow us to understand and interact with the world around us. Students will be introduced to common nervous system disorders and use the knowledge they gained to explain the disorder’s symptoms. Students will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the three pound universe within our skulls through:
-Clinical Based Testing
-Exploring Sensory Illusions
Day 5 – EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS)
Students will learn about the different roles that EMS providers play in health care systems today by participating in simulations that will take place in Jump Simulation’s Virtual Hospital Unit and Regional Transport Center.
Students will have the opportunity to:
-Serve the role of an EMS provider in a simulated environment
-Interact and engage with Jump Simulation’s manikins while providing emergency medical care as they simulate transport to the hospital by ambulance
-Gain hands on experience with technology and equipment used by paramedics
