Mentor Match Engine Student Showcase
March 12 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pmFree
The Mentor Matching Engine (MME) is a project-based, virtual collaboration tool that connects students with STEM professionals anytime/anywhere. It is an invite-only platform that involves four categories of users: students, teachers, mentors, and mentor supervisors, with a lead administrator that coordinates and invites each of these users to collaborate.
Students initiate the process by putting forth a research topic/project of interest and then request mentors with relevant subject matter expertise. Mentors provide ongoing guidance (generally no less than 6 weeks) in a discussion-based forum that can accommodate document sharing, video conferencing and multiple mentors, students, and teachers.
Through embedded background checks, MME provides a safe environment where teachers act as facilitators for their students to engage with mentors and can track activity and outcomes.
During our June 2018 Teacher Tuesday event at Washington High School, we discovered how this programming is creating incredible opportunities for students. Utilizing an inquiry based learning approach, students are building exceptional research and problem solving skills.
Because we felt this was an important opportunity for other schools in our region – there was an invitation from Caterpillar to match school enrollment fees – Illinoi Bluffs was quick to take advantage of this opportunity. We can learn more from students and their instructor about the wonderful learning exchanges they have been a part of throughout the school year as a result of Mentor Match Engine.
We want to continue to expand this important opportunity for other schools in our region, CAT is prepared to cover up to $750 for three additional high schools/teachers in our region to enroll in Mentor Matching Engine for the 2019-2020 School Year.
Join us on March 12th to learn more.
